This 7-foot straight BBQ island went into a backyard off Anthem Parkway in Sun City Anthem, Henderson (89052) in January 2024. The homeowners wanted a clean, complete outdoor cooking station that would look at home against the desert landscape and handle everything from weeknight grilling to hosting the neighbors — without giving up their patio space to a sprawling build.

The Build

A straight-line island is the workhorse of custom BBQ islands — everything within arm’s reach, no wasted footprint. This one packs a full appliance suite into seven feet:

  • Lion Premium 32″ grill — the centerpiece, built in flush
  • Lion refrigerator — cold drinks without a trip inside
  • Lion double drawer and double door — storage for tools, fuel, and everything else that usually ends up on the counter
  • Bar-height seating for three on the back side, so whoever’s cooking is never cooking alone
  • 6-inch backsplash to keep the wall behind clean

Materials Built for the Henderson Sun

The sides are wrapped in travertine ledger stone — a natural stone that takes the desert heat without fading and gives the island real texture instead of a flat stucco box. The counter is porcelain, one of our favorite surfaces for Las Vegas valley builds: it shrugs off UV, doesn’t need sealing, and stays cooler to the touch than darker stone.
