Light the work, then the mood

Start with task lighting where you cook — over the grill and prep counters — so dinner doesn’t depend on a phone flashlight. Then layer in the mood: warm accent light washing the stone, glow under counters and bar overhangs, and the fire features carrying the ambience.

Nothing lights a backyard like flame. A linear fire pit, a fire table, or an outdoor fireplace gives you moving, warm light that no fixture can match — and pulls everyone toward it as the night goes on.

Accent color, used sparingly

A ribbon of LED under a counter or along a toe-kick can transform an island after dark — like the blue-lit kitchen below. The trick is restraint: one signature color move, warm white everywhere else, so the space feels resort-like instead of arcade-like.
