1. Linear fire pits

The strongest trend of the last few years: a long, low ribbon of flame in a clean masonry surround. A linear fire pit reads modern from every angle, pairs beautifully with straight-lined patios and pools, and throws a dramatic band of light after dark.

2. Fire tables at conversation height

Homeowners increasingly want the flame at furniture height — a fire table that works like a coffee table with a fire in the middle. 3. Fire glass over logs

Fire glass has all but replaced ceramic logs in modern builds — it sparkles in daylight, glows at night, and comes in blues, clears, and bronzes that can echo your pool or hardscape. It’s an easy way to make the flame feel designed rather than dropped in.

4. Materials that match the house

Stacked stone, travertine, and smooth stucco surrounds — matched to the home’s exterior — are replacing the generic kit look. The best fire features look like they were always part of the yard.

5. Fire as part of the whole outdoor room

The biggest shift isn’t the fire feature itself — it’s how it’s planned. Fire pits and tables are being designed alongside the outdoor kitchen, seating, and a TV media wall as one composition. And when homeowners want architecture and wind protection instead of a 360° circle, the outdoor fireplace takes the stage.
