An outdoor kitchen is one of the best upgrades you can make to a Las Vegas home — but a great one starts long before the first block is set. After building outdoor kitchens across the valley since 1998, here’s how we approach a project from blank patio to finished cook space, and what to think through before you start.
1. Start with how you actually cook
The best layout isn’t about square footage — it’s about your habits. Do you grill for two or host thirty? Do you want a griddle for breakfast, a smoker for weekends, a bar for guests? We map the work triangle (grill, prep, storage) and the guest flow first, so the finished kitchen fits your life instead of a template. Straight runs, L-shapes, and U-shapes each have a place depending on your patio and how you entertain. See more custom outdoor kitchens for ideas.
2. Build it for the desert
This is where a lot of cheaper builds fail. A Las Vegas outdoor kitchen lives through 110° summers, UV that never quits, and monsoon dust and rain. We build on solid masonry with reinforcement, outdoor-rated components, and finishes chosen to hold up out here — not indoor materials pushed outside. Built right, it looks new in year ten.
3. Choose your appliances
The grill is the heart, but the extras get used more than people expect: a griddle for smash burgers and breakfast, a side burner for sauces and sides, an outdoor fridge, and storage drawers and doors to keep tools and tanks out of sight. We build in premium brands — including the value-strong Videl USA lineup — and lay them out around how you cook. If a dedicated grill station is more your speed, a custom BBQ island may be the better fit.
4. Pick counters and finishes that match your home
Counters take the most abuse and the most looks — full-slab quartzite with waterfall edges is our most-requested choice for the desert (here’s quartzite vs granite). For the island face and surrounds, stacked stone, stucco, porcelain tile, and Thermory real wood all mix beautifully. The goal is a kitchen that looks like your home grew it.
5. Design the whole outdoor room
The best projects don’t stop at the cook zone. Fold in a TV media wall, an outdoor fireplace or fire feature, shade, and seating — designed together as one space, even if you build in phases. That’s what turns a grill area into the room everyone gravitates to.
6. Budget honestly and build with a licensed contractor
Costs vary widely with size, materials, and appliances — our Las Vegas outdoor kitchen cost guide breaks it down in plain numbers. Whoever you hire, make sure they’re a licensed Nevada contractor (ours is #0095511) and can show you real, standing work — not just renderings.
