Custom BBQ Islands in Las Vegas

The built-in grill island your backyard has been waiting for — real masonry, premium grills, and a counter that never wobbles. Built by the same licensed hands that have set stone in the valley since 1998.

Beyond the Cart Grill

Why Las Vegas Backyards Deserve Better Than a Rolling Grill

There's a moment every serious griller reaches: the cart grill's side shelf is sagging, the wind keeps stealing your napkins, and there's nowhere to put the platter. A BBQ island is the answer — a permanent, built-in cooking station with the grill set into real stone, counters on both sides of it, and storage underneath where the tools actually live.

An island is also the smartest first step into outdoor living. It costs a fraction of a full outdoor kitchen, occupies a footprint almost any patio can spare — from a Skye Canyon starter home to an established Green Valley backyard — and it's built so a refrigerator, side burner, or bar top can join it later. Many of our full kitchens started life as an island we built two years earlier.

And unlike the cart it replaces, an island doesn't depreciate in the sun. Stone and 304 stainless are desert-proof; a well-built island is still photographing like new when the third rolling grill would have gone to the curb.

The Sun West Difference in a BBQ Island

An island looks simple — a box with a grill in it. The difference between one that lasts thirty years and one that cracks in three is everything you can't see.

Real Masonry, Not Kits

We build islands from the ground up — proper base, reinforced structure, true stone and stucco finishes. No bolt-together frames wrapped in panels that drum when you close a door.

Licensed & Verifiable

Nevada Contractor License #0095511 — check it before you call. Nearly three decades and 1,000+ projects across the valley, from Summerlin to Boulder City.

Grill-First Design

As an authorized Lion dealer, we design the island around the exact grill going into it — correct cutout, correct clearances, correct ventilation. The grill and the stone fit like they were made together, because they were.

Desert-Proof Materials

Granite, quartzite, and porcelain counters; 304 stainless doors and drawers; finishes chosen for 115° summers. The materials cost a little more once — and never apologize afterward.

Built to Grow

Every island is planned with tomorrow in mind — counter space, structure, and layout that can accept a fridge, side burner, or raised bar later without tearing anything out.

Financing Available

Islands are the most financeable project we build — monthly payments through Acorn Finance and HFS Financial, with rate checks that don't touch your credit score. See options →

Island Configurations

Find the Shape That Fits Your Space

Island shape is a space decision first and a style decision second. Here's how each footprint earns its keep.

Straight Island

The classic. Grill in the middle, working counter on both sides, storage below — fits along almost any wall or patio edge.

L-Shape Island

Adds a second run for prep or seating around a corner. The upgrade most straight-island owners wish they'd chosen first.

Island with Bar

A raised counter on the guest side puts stools right at the grill show — the configuration that ends the "cook alone" problem.

T-Shape Island

A dining or bar wing extending from the cooking run — one structure that handles the meal from flame to table.

Curved Island

A radius bar that seats guests face-to-face with the cook. Harder to build, unmistakable to look at — a true masonry showpiece.

Design Advice

Measure your patio before you fall in love with a shape. A straight island needs as little as 8 feet of run; an L or T wants breathing room on two sides. We confirm the fit at your free consultation — bring us a rough sketch or just a photo of the space.

Island Finishes That Own the Desert

The island's finish is 80% of what you see — and 100% of what the sun attacks. Here's the honest rundown we give at every consultation.

Stacked Stone Veneer

The look most clients picture first — natural texture, deep shadows, timeless in any backyard. We install proven lines we've watched survive a decade of Vegas summers, in tones from cool gray to warm desert gold. Consider: quality between products varies wildly; the bargain panels fade and delaminate, which is why we're picky about brands on your behalf.

Smooth Stucco

Clean, modern, and the best value per square foot. Stucco matches most Las Vegas home exteriors out of the box and takes color beautifully. Consider: it shows scuffs more readily than stone at knee height where chairs and coolers live — we often pair a stone base with stucco uppers for the best of both.

Wood-Look & Thermory Finishes

The showpiece option — the warmth of wood grain with the desert-resistance real lumber can't offer outdoors here. Our LED-lit Thermory island is the most-photographed build in our portfolio. Consider: premium price, and it deserves lighting design that shows it off after dark.

Granite Counters

The proven workhorse — decades of outdoor track record, endless color options, comfortable pricing. Consider: periodic resealing, and darker slabs run hot in full sun; we position counters with that in mind.

Quartzite & Porcelain Counters

The premium tier. Quartzite brings natural drama and shrugs off heat and UV; porcelain is non-porous, colorfast, and nearly maintenance-free with a crisp modern edge. Consider: both cost more than granite and porcelain fabrication demands a specialist's hand — which is the point of hiring one.

304 Stainless Components

Non-negotiable. Doors, drawers, and grill bodies in true 304-grade stainless — the outdoor standard. The cheaper 430 grade looks identical on day one and streaks rust down your stone by year two. It's a corner we never cut, on any budget.

Builder Tip

Torn between granite and porcelain for the counter? We wrote the honest comparison: Porcelain vs. Granite for Las Vegas outdoor builds.

Built-In Grills We Install and Stand Behind

The grill is the engine of the island. We're an authorized Lion Premium Grills dealer and install the industry's proven built-in brands — matched to how you cook and what you want to spend. Many are in our shop right now.

Lion Premium Grills

The best build quality per dollar in the category — 304 stainless throughout and a lifetime warranty on key components. The grill we stock, install most, and cook on ourselves. Browse Lion →

Blaze

Deep accessory lineup and one of the strongest warranties in the industry — a favorite for islands that will work hard every weekend.

Fire Magic

The flagship tier — hand-finished stainless and serious searing power for the island where only the best will do.

American Outdoor Grill

Fire Magic's sister brand — clean lines and dependable performance at a friendlier price. Our AOG review →

Coyote

Smart value across grills, griddles, and refrigeration — a strong way to outfit a complete island on a defined budget.

Summerset

Feature-rich grills with matching components that make a coordinated island effortless.

Le Griddle

The French flat-top that earns its cutout — smash burgers, fajitas, and Saturday breakfast on the island. More on Le Griddle →

What Can Go Into Your Island

Start with the grill — then build the station around how you actually cook.

Built-In Grill

The centerpiece — set into the stone with correct clearances and ventilation.

Side Burner

Beans, sauces, and a stockpot without a trip to the indoor stove.

Stainless Storage

Doors and drawers that keep tools, covers, and supplies where you cook.

Outdoor Refrigerator

Cold drinks and marinating meat at arm's reach — the most-requested add-on.

Kamado / Smoker Cutout

A dedicated berth for the Big Green Egg or pellet smoker — built in, not parked beside.

Griddle Station

A flat-top set flush in the counter for the smash-burger crowd.

Bar Overhang

Counter extended for stools so guests sit with the cook, not behind them.

Trash & Prep Station

Cutting surface with a drop-in trash pull — the unglamorous feature owners rave about.

Accent Lighting

LED underglow and task light — our Thermory island proves what lighting does after dark.

TV Nook

A weatherized screen built into the island back or a companion wall for game day.

What Does a Custom BBQ Island Cost in Las Vegas?

Straight numbers: most Sun West BBQ islands land between $8,000 and $30,000. A quality straight island with a mid-tier built-in grill typically runs in the low-to-mid teens; L-shapes, bar seating, premium counters, and refrigeration move a build into the $18,000–$30,000 range; and showpiece islands — curved bars, designer finishes, full lighting — go beyond.

What moves the number most: the grill itself (a Lion and a Fire Magic of the same size can differ by thousands), linear footage, counter material, finish choice (stucco to stacked stone to Thermory is a real spread), and site access — an open Inspirada side yard builds faster than a tight established courtyard in Anthem.

Every proposal is itemized line by line — the grill, the stone, the counter, the labor — and the price only changes if you change the scope. For deeper numbers across all project types, read our Las Vegas cost guide.

Want it as a monthly payment instead? Islands are the most commonly financed project we build — check your rate through Acorn Finance or HFS Financial with no impact on your credit.

Common Question

"Is a custom island really better than the prefab kits I see online?" Honest answer: a good kit beats a bad custom build. But kits are built to a price — thin frames, 430 stainless, generic cutouts — and they can't match your space, your home's finish, or your grill. Custom masonry costs more up front and is the version still standing when the kit has been replaced twice.

Desert Performance

Built for Las Vegas Heat

Southern Nevada sun exposure is the real test of an outdoor BBQ island. Full afternoon exposure, 115° summers, and relentless UV will find every shortcut a builder took — which is why material choice matters more in Las Vegas backyards than almost anywhere else.

Countertop material selection. This is the decision that most affects how an island lives in the heat. Quartzite and granite are our go-to outdoor countertop options — both handle desert conditions well when properly selected and sealed. Where the layout allows, we lean toward lighter colors, which stay cooler to the touch than dark slabs sitting in direct sun.

Outdoor-rated finishes. Stone, stucco, tile, and aluminum wood siding all have a place in a Las Vegas backyard — but only in outdoor-rated forms built to survive UV and high heat without fading, chalking, or delaminating. We steer clients toward finishes we've watched hold their color through a decade of valley summers.

Grill ventilation. A built-in grill needs proper ventilation clearances to run cool and last — so we build the cutout and surrounding structure around the exact grill, not a generic opening.

The short version: a custom grill island built for desert conditions costs a little more in materials and a lot more in know-how — and it's the version still looking new when a cheaper build has faded. It's the same desert judgment we bring to outdoor kitchens in Las Vegas and every custom fire pit, outdoor fireplace, and outdoor TV media wall we build.

What Homeowners Say

"It's always a pleasure to write a review when you only have positive things to say. Chad was referred to me by Mike (owner) of New View Landscape. I wanted a very custom outdoor kitchen area that included a BBQ, a Green egg smoker, and an EVO skillet all with a modern but timeless style. Simply put, Chad delivered. He communicated clearly on timelines, and scheduling. I felt bad as on a couple of evenings he worked even as the sun faded..he takes his timelines very seriously and is appreciated. He provided many options for stucco colors, and drawers/hardware with an option to get drawers myself or he could source them. The job was almost finished when we both noticed that the counter was not cut correctly around the EVO skillet. He immediately took care of it without question and with little delay. All of our friends and family love the outdoor kitchen and more importantly we do. I would highly recommend Chad!"
